Serbian Philanthropic Gala 2023

New York, NY — November 17, 2023 — The Serbian Philanthropic Association hosted its fourth annual Serbian Philanthropic Gala at the prestigious Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City on November 17th, 2023. This inspiring event brought together 470 attendees from across the United States, Serbia, and beyond to unite for a common cause—supporting children’s health and emotional well-being through philanthropy.

The Gala raised over $105,316, which will be evenly distributed between two impactful initiatives: the “Feel to Heal” program by the Novak Djokovic Foundation, which focuses on nurturing children’s emotional management skills to support lifelong well-being, and the “Hospice at Home for Children” program by the BELhospice Centre for Palliative Care, which provides medical care and emotional support for terminally ill children and their families.

The event also honored Serbs for Serbs, a charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of Serbian families in need. With a legacy of over 18 years, the organization has raised more than $13 million and helped over 3,200 families. The Gala recognized Serbs for Serbs with the Excellence in Philanthropic Action Award for their tireless efforts to lift families out of poverty.

The evening’s celebration featured vibrant entertainment and unforgettable performances. Jelena Gavrilović, actress, singer, and event co-host, along with George Petković, Vice President of the Americas, Air Serbia, brought energy and warmth to the event as Masters of Ceremony. Ms. Gavrilović’s opening musical performance set the stage for a night of engaging performances, including the enchanting Austrian Waltz performed by the Viennese Opera Ball Quintet.

A highlight of the evening was a mesmerizing performance by special guest Marija Šerifović, whose powerful voice captivated the audience. The night also featured an unforgettable moment when 10-year-old Sophia, one of the youngest attendees, spontaneously joined Ms. Šerifović on stage, showcasing her vocal talent. This heartwarming performance perfectly aligned with the Gala’s focus on supporting children.

Following her performance, Ms. Šerifović shared her impressions, stating “I was deeply impressed by the event and the incredible work being done by the Serbian Philanthropic Association. It was an honor to contribute to the important causes supporting children’s health and well-being in Serbia.”

Ms. Gavrilović echoed these sentiments, saying, “It’s a true honor to return to this Gala for the second year in a row. I’m so happy that this year’s funds will go toward creating a better future for children in Serbia.”
